PRIVATE HOLIDAY GITE IN THE SOUTH WEST OF FRANCE

We invite you to come and stay for a taste of French life here in your very own, self-catering Gite.

We are nestled within the beautiful undisturbed Limousin countryside. You choose your own pace of life, from one of romantic solitude or exploring daily, the French culture of food and wine, town markets, glorious lakes, historic chateaus, and a never-ending variety of walks and drives within what feels like days of old.

We have just ONE delightful detached, two bedroomed Gite that has been totally rennervated from the old farm piggery. The Gite is for your very own use along with 3 acres of secluded gardens and land for you to walk around and take in the stunning surrounding views of the Limousin countryside.

If you are looking for open gardens with far reaching views, peace and quiet then, Reids Retreat is perfect for you. It has all the ingredients for a romantic getaway and a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

We are prfectly situated just 1km from our lovely village of La Roche l’Abeille. You can walk to the restaurant for coffee & cake, a cold glass of beer or wine, taste the traditional French lunch menu, (Fridays pizza night), browse the small food shop & even collect fresh bread & cakes to take back with you. St Yrieiex La Perche is just a 10minute drive & has all the facilities required.

Lac Arfeuille with its sandy beach, swimming area, Canoe hire & crazy golf is just a 10-minute drive away.

THE GITE

When you enter the 'open plan' Gite into the lounge, you have two large double sofas, coffee tables, soft lighting, English and French TV and a selection of games. Moving on to the dining area with large wooden table. Carry on through to the kitchen with fitted cupboards/worktops, double sink, dishwasher, gas oven with four burners, fridge/freezer, microwave, Dolce Gusto coffee machine, kettle and toaster. All kitchen utensils are provided along with sponges, tea towels, washing-up liquid and dishwasher tablets.

The toilet and shower room, equipped with wash basin, toilet and a good-sized shower. Toilet rolls and bath towels are provided.

Upstairs, we offer two spacious bedrooms…

Bedroom (1) consists of king size bed, good quality bedlinen, two bedside cabinets (with lamps, clock/alarm and wall plug sockets with 2 usb ports), wardrobe, one large chest of draws, dressing table, hairdryer, full-length mirror, standing fan and window with view of the garden, surrounding hills and trees.

Bedroom (2) consists of double bed, good quality bedlinen, two bedside cabinets (with lamps, clock/alarm and wall plug sockets with 2 usb ports), wardrobe, two chests of draws, dressing table, hairdryer, full-length mirror, standing fan, iron and ironing board, Skylight window.

THE GROUNDS

The rear of the gite has a decked area with table, chairs, and parasol, ideal for your morning coffee and croissant or a glass of wine in the evening, whilst looking over the garden and fields. At the side entrance of the gite is a wooden pergola covered with Jasmine. This gives perfect dappled shade to sit under & maybe take advantage of the stone BBQ to cook and eat at your own leisure. You have exclusive use of the large private gardens with sunbeds, parasols, easy seating, swing chairs and a hammock. The garden is ideally situated to catch the sun from sunrise to sunset and the best far-reaching views. You can sit back under another pergola at the rear of the old barn offering dappled shade.

We have a GARDEN ROOM that you can use at your leisure. Maybe sit in to read a book, play chess, make use of the telescope if you are interested in looking at the night sky or just relax whilst looking out over the distant views. You will find some informational leaflets of things to do in and around the local area too.

In the GAMES ROOM (The Old Barn) you will find darts, table tennis and table football. Lists of Supermarkets, Restaurants, Places to visit & things to do are also on show.

Badminton, swing-ball, boules, and quoits are within the private garden, which you can freely walk around as well as the lower field.

FREE Wi-Fi - Available within the gite and garden.

FREE PARKING - Secure area directly in front of the Gite.

FREE BIKE HIRE - A choice of 4 bikes available to use. Why not cycle up to the village for your bread/cakes, a drink on the restaurants terrace or stop and have a traditional French lunch at the restaurant. If you wish, you can venture further on the beautiful and quiet lanes that surround La Roche-l’Abeille (Helmets are NOT supplied)

IN THE AREA

Just a taste of what is nearby:

La-Roche L'Abeille - 1 km walk up to our lovely little village, you will find a post office, little church, a Bar/Restaurant 'Le Vieux Chateau' with its small shop, fresh bread, and delicious cakes, stop for a drink or book in for a traditional French lunch.

Moulin de la Gorce – 3 km (4min drive) a Michelin Star Restaurant (partner of "La Table du Moulin"). Dine here and be served with beautiful local French delights. It truly is a remarkable restaurant to visit (www.moulindelagorce.com).

St Yrieix-la-Perche – 9 km (10min drive) where you will find everything you need, Supermarkets, Shops, Tabacs, Restaurants and much more including a market every 2nd and 4th Friday of each month. The lovely church with tours of the tower. The lake (Lac D'Arfeuille) with a beach, swimming area, boating, Picnic area and Mini Golf.

Chateau de Bonneval – 12 km (13min drive) to Coussac Bonneval, this is a lovely Chateau to look around and take in the incredible French history. There’s also Shops, Tabacs and restaurants within the town.

Reynou Zoo – 21 km (17min drive) to Le Vigen. This is a lovely zoo to visit. The visitors’ trail twists through the landscaped parks and woodland for more than five kilometres. A good selection of well-kept animals to be seen.

Espace Hermeline – 25 km (28min drive) to Bussiere Galant is a leisure park with outdoor activities: Mega-zip line, rail bike, mini golf, tree climbing, kayak, tennis, bathing and much more.

Limoges – 32 km (30min drive) Please don't think of Limoges as just an airport destination for you to land at for your holidays. There are lots of things to do and see in Limoges. The Cathedral with botanical gardens, Churches, Parks, Adventure Park, Museums, Shops, Boutiques, Bars, Restaurants and lots more. Be sure to visit the historic centre, where medieval timber-frame houses and old cobbled stoned streets line Rue de la Boucherie. You could take in the sights via the little road train or in one of the little Tuk Tuk's.

Oradour-sur-Glane – 53 km (48min drive) is unique in Europe: The fully preserved ruined village of Oradour-sur-Glane, is known throughout the world for bearing the traces of the massacre of its population. 642 people, including 247 children were shot or burnt alive by a unit of the Waffen SS on June 10, 1944. Only 6 people escaped to tell their emotional story. The village has been left as an honoured memorial ever since and is open to visitors.
